It’s relevance to Decay & Treatment

Tooth Has Following Parts & layers.

1)Enamel
2)Dentin
3)Pulp
4)Crown
5)Root

1)Enamel

Enamel is outermost layer of our tooth. It is a hardest part of our body.

Because of its hardness, bacteria takes long time to penetrate this layer.

Once they penetrate this layer, it will become easy for them to progress further.

You don’t get any kind of sensitivity or pain when decay restricts in enamel as it doesn’t have nerve supply.

So if decay restricts only in enamel then one can stop decay going further by doing Dental Filling.

2)Dentin

It is 2nd layer of tooth. It is softer than enamel.

This layer has nerve supply. So if decay reaches this layer then you may get sensitivity to cold only.

If Decay extend till mid of Dentin then treatment would be Dental Filling.

3)Pulp

It is innermost layer, Core of your tooth.

It has blood supply as well as nerve supply.

So when decay reaches this layer you may get pain, sensitivity to cold & hot things.
& treatment for that would be Root Canal Thearapy.

4)Crown

Crown is that part of tooth which is visible in oral cavity.

5)Root

Roots are the parts of tooth which are present under the gums.

Roots are the basic foundation of tooth.

Our few teeth are single rooted, & few are multi-rooted.

Inside every root there are canals. In Root Canal Thearapy  we need to clean & fill those canals.

Conclusion-

Once bacteria penetrate enamel then we have to do some kind of treatment to stop decay process.  So always keep in mind 'Prevention is better than cure'. so to prevent decay develop good eating habits & most importantly do two time Effective Brushing.

Decay lies in Enamel- if decay lies in enamel then treatment would be just Dental Filling or Restoration.
