Root canal treatment is tooth saving procedure. Innermost part of tooth which is core of tooth is called as pulp or 'Nas'. Due to any reason if inner most layer i.e. pulp get infected then we save that tooth by doing Root Canal Treatment.
Before going for this procedure, we need tooth x-ray to see the roots, extent of decay, spread of infection beyond roots. Once it's done, we start the procedure by giving local anaesthesia so that it will be absolutely painfree procedure.
Our tooth has small tiny canals inside the roots. As name suggests, we do cleaning of canals which are present inside the roots of the tooth. We use different kind of instruments for cleaning those Canals. After cleaning, we fill those canals with a material called as G.P. After sealing the canals we put Cement in the top part of the tooth.
Root canal treated tooth becomes brittle as time goes on. It might get fractured because of our normal chewing food process. So to avoid that we put cap on top of tooth. so the cap protects tooth.
Root canal procedure is single sitting procedure or multiple sitting procedure. It mainly depend on extent of infection, skill of operator and comfort of patient.
Average life of root canal treatment is 7 years to 15 years. Life of Root canal treatment depend upon many factors.
