Primary Teeth & Secondary Teeth




* Humans have two Sets of teeth: Primary & Secondary.

* We have 20 Milk Teeth & 32 Permanent Teeth.

* The eruption pattern of milk teeth & permanent teeth showed in diagram.

The Eruption pattern may vary according to Following factors.

Local factor- Presence of fibrous connective tissue overlying the tooth.
                     -Ankylosed Teeth
Systemic Factors- Premature Birth
                               Chronic Illness
                               Nutritional status

Primary Teeth(Milk Teeth)

-Primary teeth also called as Milk Teeth.

-In most children the eruption of primary teeth is preceded by increased salivation & child's tendency of putting his fingers in his mouth.

-1st milk tooth appear in child’s mouth at the age of 6 month.

-Spacing in anteriors of  primary dentition is normal & is necessary to provide enough room for alignment of permanent incisors when they erupt.

Permanent Teeth-
-1st Permanent tooth appear in oral cavity is 1st Molar at the age of 6yrs.

-It takes about 2-3yrs for roots to be completed after a tooth has erupted into occlusion.

Conclusion
-6months - 6yrs - Primary Dentition
-6yrs -13yrs - Mixed Dentition
-13yrs onwards - Secondary Dentition

Effective Tooth Brushing Technique

A proper brushing technique is first step for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. And also it helps to minimise the risk of decay and gum disease, the major causes of tooth loss.  Few things you need to take care before brushing. 1)Use soft bristle toothbrush. 2)Use fluoridated toothpaste. 3)Change your brush every three to four months. 4) Brush your teeth twice a day one in morning one at night before going to bed for 2 to 3 minute. 5)Take pea sized toothpaste for brushing your teeth. 6)Always brush your teeth using toothpaste and toothbrush only.
